It has been almost four months since I came to this beautiful country, and many times I feel like I have lived here for a long time. Today is Finland's Independence Day. On this nationally celebrated holiday, I can't help but also feel anticipation and joy. I also want to learn more about this country, including its history, of course.
On December 6, 1917, Finland declared independence and became a sovereign state. The official languages are Finnish and Swedish. Therefore, December 6 was designated as Finland's Independence Day.
Finland's history has always been ruled by its neighbors. From 1155-1809, Finland was ruled by Sweden for 6 centuries. During the Swedish rule, Finland was only a collection of provinces and cities, not a national entity. It was under the direct jurisdiction of Stockholm, Sweden, and its capital was Turku in the west. Therefore, Finland is deeply influenced by Sweden in terms of culture, customs and social systems. In the Swiss-Russian War of 1808-1809, Sweden was defeated, Finland was ceded to Russia, and Finland became an autonomous grand duchy of the Tsarist Russia. From 1812, Helsinki has become the capital of Finland. The October Revolution in Russia broke out in 1917, the Tsarist Russia disintegrated, and the Finns (C.G.E.Mannerheim) fought bravely against the Russian army, driving them out of Finland, announcing the end of Russia's rule of Finland.
When I returned home, I saw the flying Finnish flag, and I offered my best wishes. I also know that I will always love Finland.
